What is Reiki?

There are many ways to answer this common question

One of my favorite responses is: Reiki is 5-element healing system originating from Japan.

The term Reiki comes from the Japanese words "rei" meaning universal and "ki" which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things.

Another translation of the word is simple: spiritual energy.

If you’re someone who is energy curious, or energy sensitive, Reiki is a great place to start.

Reiki is not tied to any specific religion or nationality and is used by millions around the globe as a way of guiding energy throughout the body to promote healing and wholeness. As a holistic healing technique, Reiki can be used in a variety of ways to promote physical, emotional and spiritual healing, and it is currently offered in over 15% of U.S. Hospitals including Yale, UCLA, and Harvard as a complementary treatment.

As a Reiki practitioner, I am holding space for you. I serve as a channel for the Reiki energy to flow through me and to you.

I am not healing you. You heal you. Reiki is designed to awaken your innate healing capacities.

I simply support you by creating an environment for the self-healing to occur. The Reiki flows where it needs to go, allowing Ki to move more freely again.

Hands-on Reiki, or Tenohira, is 1 of the 5 elements of Reiki. When receiving hands-on Reiki, you will feel my hands pause on different points of your body. You may experience the Reiki as warmth, tingles, colors, sound or images. All that is needed for a Reiki treatment is to be open and receptive.

Recipients often report feelings of relaxation, restoration, ease, nourishment, peace and flow. Some say it feels like an "energy massage"

Reiki is often used to:

  • reduce stress
  • promote relaxation
  • support the body's natural healing processes
  • improve sleep
  • provide support during challenging times
  • boost the immune system
  • improve flow of Chi or Ki in the body
  • complement traditional medicine

Reiki is safe and non-invasive, and many people find it to be a gentle and effective approach to promoting healing and wellbeing.
